This grand old home has minimum outside space but made for a design challenge! The courtyard off the main living area also doubled as a secure parking space. Obviously no planting could be done here so the idea of decorating the floor surface with cobbles made for a successful solution on which to place some magnificent planters and a monumental copper water barrel.
The original outlook from the living area was a bleak red brick wall. Ficus pumila now covers every stretch of wall in glossy green leaves. Feature architectural screens and shutters were intended to give the illusion of going beyond the current limits.
We transformed a car park into a social 'spill out' area, an attractive outlook from the living room and somewhere to park the car!
